I would like to express how grateful I am to you for starting the BASc programme at UCL.
I truly believe I would not have been as versatile in my professional life - if not for BASc.
My career has turned out completely different than what I had originally envisioned. I went into the course thinking of becoming a lawyer specialized in genetics, but after graduating, I look a leap of faith, moved to South Africa, climbed the corporate ladder and ended up managing a full-scale mining operation.
When COVID happened, we had to halt all operations due to health and safety concerns, so I moved back to Europe and co-founded a crypto mining entity, XXXX XX Co. I am so thankful for your guidance on how to connect and work across disciplines and ensuring we, BASc graduates, were equipped with a very wide skills set, prepared for innovation in the workplace, burning curiosity to understand all processes and independent thinking.
My brother, for whom I worked in South Africa, keeps mentioning we need more people in the workspace with that same approach.

We celebrated #AdaLovelaceDay by creating our own flying machines. We used our #STEAM skills to draw #prototypes. Throughout the day, lots of us brought our incredible designs to life in the junk-modelling area, or with wooden blocks and Lego. We’re such curious #polymaths!
Learning should never stop, and #polymaths know this since they are naturally curious and motivated to keep learning new things. A lifelong learning mindset is what keeps #polymaths both engaged and adaptable, a necessity in our rapidly changing world.

I come from a tradition of cyber-physical systems that didn't really put humans in the loop - but in front of a button.
