Your job is not to make excuses for Polymarket but to look at the plain language of the contract. Here, the plain language of the contract was that was extra time for the news of the even to come in. If there was a Moon Rocket on June 1 minus one second, nobody would argue that it did not happen because the newspapers did not publish less than one second after the event. Additionally, in a court of law, the level of proof needed is not proof that a "Scam" occurred but what is the plain text reading of the contract.

In this market the end date is "July 1" which makes perfect sense here because that is the next after the June market would have closed. So presumably this May 31 market should have had a "June 1" ending date. However, because of Polymarket's carelessness, the May 31 market was given the same exact same deadline as the June 30th market being July 1. Because that doesn't make too much sense for the May market Polymarket just completely ignored it and issued their clarification which flipped the market
