Today is Appa's birthday. I always share 3 short anecdotes on his day to celebrate the man and his lovely persona. ANECDOTE #1: HOW JANA KRISHNAMURTHI GOT HIS NAME. Appa's home name was Jana. It was a nod to the Janardhana Swami deity. But his official name was Krishnamurthi. In 1977, when he contested the assembly elections from T.Nagar, it was noticed that there were more than one Krishnamurthis in the race. To stand out from the rest, he prefixed the name Jana, and since then Krishnamurthi became Jana Krishnamurthi! ANECDOTE #2: THE MAN BEHIND THINK TANKS WITHIN BJP Not many know this, apart from being one of the prime architects of BJP in South India, Appa was given the task of seeding intellectual cells by Shri LK Advani. Appa went about the task meticulously by creating think tanks in domains ranging from foreign policy to farming, all based out of Delhi. ANECDOTE # 3: HOW AN ALMOST DROP OUT BECAME AN ACE LAWYER Appa was a Swayamsevak in his early teens. He was drawn to the Hindu cause. So he almost decided to drop out of education to pursue his passion. The sudden demise of his dad and the domestic financial pressures forced him to reconsider his decision. He turned around the fortunes of his family by studying law from Madras, practicing it in Madurai and emerged as one of the best within a decade. But then again, he gave it all up when Guruji asked him to lead Jana Sangh in Tamil Nadu. Bright, simple, honest, humble, and outstanding in whatever he did. Appa was truly one of a kind. Happy birthday pa, wherever you are. #JanaKrishnamurthi #Janaji
