Full day. Doubling down on the strength, conditioning, and mobility.
Durability gonna be a big issue for me.

Heat map of activity and effort for #ProjectUnreasonable
you too can be unreasonable, it just takes this:

Fascinating chart here. Every easy run of #ProjectUnreasonable. The trend line more of a weather line than anything. Look at how it started declining as temps went up, and has since recovered as things cool (and dry). I expect a nice steep upturn here once we get to Oct/Nov!

#ProjectUnreasonable UPDATE - and this is a major one
We are punting on Indy in November. I am not ready to run the race I want to run. I have been battling an adductor injury and the humidity and have not been able to train according to plan.
Yes my aerobic base has been growing big time. I've dropped three full minutes off my easy pace since November of last year. I can run 45 miles a week with no problem.
But I have not been able to do any of the work necessary to move that pesky lt2 to the right and give me headroom under threshold to run at marathon pace.
Humidity ruined my paces. Injury kept me from even doing the work. and the result is that I'm just not going to be ready.
So we've decided that the new target date for the BQ attempt is late winter / early spring. Looking at Jersey City or Shamrock in VA beach.
Until then we're dropping any hills and speed work. I'm doing concentrated rehab on the adductor. and I'm continuing with easy mileage to build the base.
Lots and ltos of easy running, indoor cycling, and swimming from now until mid Dec. That's four more months of build. This week I'll be at around 48-50 miles and we'll be building from there. a couple of hours of cross training thrown in on top of it. And the aerobic base will be bigger and stronger for the 4 months of marathon block that will start in the winter.
I've taken a week or so to come to this conclusion so the emotion of it all has already passed. I was really super bummed. But in the end its about the journey, the process, and who I'm becoming. and none of that has changed.
Onwards, forwards, bigger miles, more mileage, stronger base, faster and faster easy paces...all good things! Thank you for following along. Hope you can stick it out an extra 6 months with me on this UNREASONABLE journey.
New #ProjectUnreasonable diet is working. Saw 202 this week. Started at 244. 189 here we come.
Yes. I’m hungry. White knuckle raw dogging with no Reta.
I came off Reta and didn’t rebound because I track and am meticulous.
It can be done.

New diet update for #projectunreasonable
While my weight continues to go down, the rate of decline is not happening as quickly as we would like. The goal is to be in the 190’s when my marathon block starts in July.
I’m 209/210. Need to drop 15 lbs over next 7 or 8 weeks.
So we are lowering calories across the board to 1800/2300/2700.
I’m already pretty hungry so this only going to make that worse but the value return on being lighter will be a of deal and then being able to eat at maintenance during the most intense training period will be huge
I don’t wanna be in a deficit during 60 miles week race pace work outs and 18 mile long runs.
Here’s the new diet plan and a picture of my leg which shows just how lean I already am and how challenging this entire thing is. 15 more lbs from here even.
Without a doubt the dieting has been the hardest part of this entire project so far. I suspect I’ll change my tune on that when we get to 20 mile long runs with 8 miles race pace lol

An update on my weight cut for #ProjectUnreasonable

#ProjectUnreasonable update
Weight is down to 208
244>208
18 lbs to go, 6 months out.
Goal is to get to 190 - 192 over the next 8-10 weeks and go to maintenance for my 4 month marathon specific block.
It’ll be a trip to from 2200 calories a day to 4000 as mileage ramps.
A fun case study from #ProjectUnreasonable to illustrate how we build the engine...
Same pace.
Same athlete.
Very different engine.
Just like the Grinch, @JohnGoldman 's heart has grown .07 extra sizes 🫀
🧵👇

And how do we "build the engine"?
#Base of course!
Something I outline in detail in Ch. 4 of my book...
https://t.co/RnocViocPZ

Great question!
For those looking to undertake their own #ProjectUnreasonable - these are the core principles of @JohnGoldman 's mission to take 2hrs of his marathon time and qualify for Boston...
👇🧵
@Alan_Couzens I've been following along since the beginning and this is exciting to see! For those of us interested in taking the core principles and applying them to our training, do you have anything written up?
Crazy to think back on the level of transformation that has already occurred...
And how much is still ahead.
#ProjectUnreasonable rolls on.
Monday: row 9k meters easy
Tuesday: easy run 54 min, elliptical 30 min, strength workout
Wednesday: run 7.5 miles with strides, row 9k easy
Thursday: easy run 54 min, easy row 6.3k meters
Friday: 7 miles with hill circuit, easy row 9k meters
Saturday: run 3 miles with race pace intervals
Sunday: 13 mile long run
LIGHTWORK
41 miles
196 days to go
So last week I had the worst moment of #projectunreasonable so far. I stood up, everything went grey, my legs started to shake, and then I passed out cold face first on the coffee table in the living room in front of my daughter and wife.
I'm ok, but my family was pretty shook.
I texted my doctor at rebel health - and he called me right away for a quick assessment at 830pm.
I showed no other symptoms prior or after the incident.
my hydration, diet, salt, etc are all on point.
he concluded that it was partly a consequence of endurance training - where my heart is beating slower and blood pressure is lower and so when I stand up quickly, there's not enough blood flow to the head
brain didn't like that so it cut out the lights pretty quickly
I had a swollen lips from landing face first and some bruised shins from the coffee table but other than that I'm a-ok
I took last week "easy" - only doing the cherry blossom ten miler (at comfortable pace) and running 40 miles - no cross training, strength training, or speed/hill work. just a lot of easy running, steady diet, good sleep.
when I looked back at my RHR and HRV data, I could see that was approaching a state of parasympathetic over reach. my HRV had sky rocketed, and my RHR had plummeted well below trend (high 30's).
some of my runs leading up to that event were kinda shitty.
since I took it easy, my HRV has declined back to trend and RHR has increased back to trend (mid 40's).
and I feel a lot better
now when I stand up I do it in phases, sit up straight, flex, stand slowly. no more jumping up quickly anymore.
a weird, yet relative known, issue
this week we're back at it in full swing.
40 miles
lots of rowing and elliptical
strength training
calorie deficit
motivated by all the Boston marathon coverage this week - just six months out from my BQ attempt.
the grind grinds on!
60 minute easy run
30 minutes elliptical
45 min strength work out
still considered "easy day" by my dietitian
this weight cut getting serious
100% the most difficult part of #projectunreasonable
Next diet phase: destroy muscle.
First time in 15 years I won’t be aiming for 1 G protein per lb of body weight.
219 today.
189 race day.
6 months. 30 lbs.
almost 60 lbs total from when we started.

When @JohnGoldman approached me to work with him on #ProjectUnreasonable , he said...
"Just tell me what to do and I'll do it."
A lot of people say that, but I could tell he really meant it.
A very rare quality these days.
#ProjectUnreasonable is lead by the team at Rebel Health Alliance and Alan Couzens. They do all the thinking. I am an empty vessel. I just run. And because I respect the hell out of the team, I do everything they say. I don't want to let them down. That's accountability.

@JohnGoldman Perfect plan perfectly executed so far. Nice work athlete and coach.
5.55 miles at 9:41 with a 125 HR
In Nov I did 12:38 at 135.
Even a month ago I was happy with 10:20 at 135.
I’ve taken minutes off my time and added years to my life.
I am totally different on a physiological level than when I started #ProjectUnreasonable.
