Exercise is an antidepressant. A new meta-analysis of 26 randomized controlled studies found that both aerobic and resistance training significantly reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, often rivaling standard treatments like medication and therapy. Although both modes were beneficial, aerobic exercise had a slightly greater impact on depression, while resistance training showed a modest edge for anxiety. Many of the included studies didn't even meet the minimum weekly physical activity recommendations for aerobic or resistance exercise, and even then, reduced depressive and anxiety symptoms significantly. For those with depression or anxiety, movement is powerful medicine. And the dose needed might be smaller than you think.

Cannabis in Pregnancy Linked to Autism and ADHD Risk Prenatal exposure to cannabis use disorder (CUD) significantly elevates the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, ASD, and intellectual disability in children. Analyzing data from over 222,000 pairs in New South Wales, the research highlighted a near doubling of the risk for these conditions in children born to mothers with prenatal CUD. Furthermore, the study illuminated that combined factors like maternal smoking during pregnancy and other pregnancy complications not only compounded these risks but also underscored the urgent need for targeted public health interventions. This pivotal research underscores the necessity for heightened awareness and preventive counseling for women of childbearing age about the risks cannabis use poses during pregnancy, aiming to safeguard the neurodevelopmental health of future generations. 1/2
