Please read & RT this informative thread by Dr. Bikos. It’s a crucial time. #Police #Budget #RefundTheCommunity
It's been a busy year for @GroundUpWR
Proud of the work we've done this year! ✊

@BlueSteelDC This was the dumbest slogan in the history of political slogans. Especially since #RefundTheCommunity was right there and what people said they meant anyway.
In the same month of the attack, taxpayers paid NYPD officers *$115 million* in overtime. To assault, maim, choke, beat, & terrorize protestors. This billboard ran in Times Square. Across from NYPD station
We don’t know who needs to hear this but police services do not hold a monopoly on safety. In fact, the police respond to crimes AFTER they have happened. They do not, IN LIVED EXPERIENCE, keep us safe. #defundthepolice #reallocateWR #REFUNDTHECOMMUNITY
This is really amazing work and really important info to consider when the police are asking for an astronomical increase and 1M budget SURPLUS which is unconscionable given how much need there is.

Outraged like we are?

We support and echo the calls of @OfAcb. Black, Indigenous & Racialised community groups and leaders in this region continue seek greater investment in community-led care and safety. #reallocatewr #refundthecommunity
We call on @RegionWaterloo to reject the proposed increase to the police budget & invest the equivalent requested for policing in community-led care & safety. The safest communities are the most resourced.

Our CTAs outlining, once again, why we must #defundthepolice and #refundthecommunity will be released in the coming weeks. We deserve a region that invests in housing, food security, transportation, community care, mental health & dignity not police.

@BanquoDyar Let's take their talking points and turn them into positives to try to salvage these kinds of missteps. #RefundTheCommunity has always been a good idea. Attacking Barnes isn't going to help him win right now.
Over $500,000 so far! Who’s signing these cheques @Redman4Region? @FABWaterloo @tomjgalloway14 @KWAwesome @ywcakw @RegionWaterloo #DefundThePolice #RefundTheCommunity #SystemicVAW
Hey #waterlooregion, here is a chart of your money paid to a law firm to continue the #whistleblower retaliation I have faced by the WRPS (your police). Only up until Aug. 2021, updated figure pending. I resigned in 2017.
If you could investigate your officers hate crimes that would be great, otherwise you’re a part of the problem. #DefundWRPS #RefundTheCommunity
Excellent investigation by our General Investigations Unit! Incidents motivated by hate will be vigorously investigated by our team. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by these acts.
Became a cop with #WaterlooRegionalPolice and found out the most depraved criminals worked there too. #DefundThePolice #RefundTheCommunity
Oops! I almost forgot the obligatory hearing-day selfie! Feeling all the love from my friends on twitter 💖✊🏻💜TY

@KurinMinang No more carceral reforms. #defundthepolice #refundthecommunity Dismantle the violence of policing
Investigation into police while there’s an investigation into police re DFV WTAF
Just defund the violence of policing & more women will be safe & alive

QLD Police probed over visit to woman with DV order hours before fatal fire.
“The actions of police called to the home of a woman under the protection of a domestic violence order are being probed after she died in a house fire just hours later.” https://t.co/PL3GJfaGMn
@BreeNewsome We've lost votes over defund the police, absolutely no question. #RefundTheCommunity is what we want so why not say it?
Almost exactly two years ago, Waterloo Region Police used the excuse of "popping" sounds to violently attack and tase a Somali man. They changed their story multiple times and ended up dropping all charges against the man. #DefundWRPS #RefundTheCommunity
https://t.co/dhNDySvAob
The ridiculousness of the police response is performance. They are manufacturing threats to rationalize further violence. Expect more incidents like this as the region develops court case.
