That's why, although today's proposals to criminal records disclosure reform are welcome, we continue to call for a root-and-branch review of the criminal records regime. Join https://t.co/HGaA7lpp5s to advocate for reform. #FairChecks #ROAreform
What's the rationale behind the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974? @unlockcharity has just published a paper by Dr Andrew Henley - drawing on research from his doctoral thesis. Read it here⬇️https://t.co/vJcLbGxHUz #ROAreform
@ChrisStacey @DavidGauke @MoJGovUK Great news! If ROA1974 is reformed in Westminster then @scotgov needs to urgently review opportunities for better & more nuanced changes for #ROAreform which are outside its powers. @weaver_beth @HumzaYousaf @ComJusScot
And to be clear (given some misleading reports over the weekend), legislation already exists (these proposals extend who it would cover) & it doesn't mean convictions are 'wiped' (once spent they can still be disclosed on standard/enhanced DBS checks) #roareform
However, as my full comment for @unlockcharity highlights, these proposals need to go alongside wider reforms to ensure that the legislation does what it is intended to do and effectively protects people with spent convictions from discrimination. #roareform
Really positive announcement by @DavidGauke @MoJGovUK - expanding 'spent conviction' Rehabilitation of Offenders Act to sentences of over 4 years in prison will help thousands of people every year who currently feel written off for the rest of their lives! #roareform
Unlock very much welcomes & supports today’s announcement by the Justice Secretary to make changes to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This is something we have long-campaigned for. Read full comment from co-director @chrisstacey here: https://t.co/vQp8DucTS8 #roareform

Pleased to see this BBC News article on @DavidGauke @MoJGovUK plans to make changes Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (plus it includes a quote from me). Although the title is unhelpful - once convictions become spent they are not 'wiped' - https://t.co/o8vxsGQmE9 #roareform
Great research by @weaver_beth - "Time for policy redemption - A review of the evidence on the disclosure of criminal records" - https://t.co/tmrJ1ACHBp #roareform #dbsfiltering #criminalrecords #peoplewithconvictions
In 2016 7,447 people were sentenced to more than 4 years in prison. Under current disclosure rules, this will NEVER be 'spent' #roareform
Shows how, while #ROAreform in 2014 was positive (4yr sentence used to be 'never spent'), there's more needed to help #peoplewithconvictions https://t.co/Ot1AvSxFVA
Delighted to hear so much support in @UKHouseofLords for Lord R's Bill on #ROAreform. @unlock2000 will continue pushing for wholesale reform
