This is a disgraceful press statement.
Firstly, it is not for @HMRCgovuk to decide whether something is legally binding or not. That is a decision for the courts.
It is time HMRC understood they are not judge and jury on these cases.
Another scandal of gross unfairness involving #HMRC going after victims of fraud & not the fraudsters.
There’s an urgent need to #ReformHMRC, introduce proper oversight & accountability & legislation to ensure #taxpayerfairness & a Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
People who have been defrauded out of some or all of their pension fund are now being chased by HM Revenue & Customs for tax on money they no longer have @bbcdanw explains and @MissCarlyBarnes tells me what campaigners want govt to do @Moneybox noon @BBCRadio4

In response to a question on HMRC's behaviour when pursuing tax cases before the courts, and specifically with IR35 cases, he said "we do always try to resolve disputes by agreement".

It also shows the need for reform of #HMRC, for a proper system of oversight & accountability of a reformed UK tax authority & for #TaxpayerFairness to be enshrined in law including a #TaxpayerBillofRights. This is something we will continue to push for. ⚖️

They were hounding him during his illness with a brain tumour even though he couldn’t speak on the phone, they cruelly kept talking to him, I am devastated he died this week.
