Why should Early Years teachers be made to feel like they’re on trial?
#RespectForEarlyYears @Ofstednews can you ensure that your training includes guidance on not using the phrase, “prove it” with teachers , and that it’s clear that inspectors cannot demand to see planning in a
@teachingmissjac But this is happening for several EY teachers, and it’s not ok. There are lots of EY teachers sharing their experiences. It’s much more difficult for very young children to corroborate what teachers say when asked by strangers. The phrase, “prove it” seems to be used a lot in EY
@Mr_PaintPots @ballater6 Absolutely. It wouldn’t be difficult to restore the sectors faith. Just ensure someone with real, recent EY experience and an EY qualification inspects EY. #RespectForEarlyYears
And 4 staff. Many of their children missed parts of EY because of lockdowns. It shows. #RespectForEarlyYears

A range of voices from different parts of the sector.
Spent the day working with a school on their curriculum for the 2-3 room and on transition to Y1. What a joy and a pleasure my job is, and yes, we needed a lot of in- depth knowledge of child development to make sure we get it right. #RespectForEarlyYears
@housepanther77 @NazMeerhout @jly72 @thepetitioner Huge issues. It’s one of the things we’re hoping @bphillipsonMP is going to address. It starts with #RespectForEarlyYears and an understanding of the importance of a deep understanding of child development, our “subject”.
@tobin_carole We need to raise the status, invest in the sector, value what they do, listen to the people working in settings, not those who think EY begins in Reception and support colleagues with a clear career pathway, excellent CPD and decent rates of pay. #RespectForEarlyYears
Ethics and advocacy as a vital part of the role of working with 2-3 year olds. It isn’t mini- school. It’s highly specialised. #RespectForEarlyYears
My usual response to nonsense comments like this is to invite the person to come and spend a week in the classroom and have a go at it. People think it’s funny but it’s so tiresome. #respectforearlyyears

There needs to be a professional respect from other teachers for EYFS teachers. @SwailesRuth

@SwailesRuth I definitely have no authority but just a secondary teacher who knows how important EYFS is and that I would be so out of my depth as to the intricacies that entails. Thanks to all EY staff on here!
@lindaosull88 Respect for early years workers too most who opened June 2020 and have never closed #respectforearlyyears
@Emma_Turner75 I’ve been calling for #RespectForEarlyYears for some time now. Instead we’re referred to as the EYFS mafia, a cabal, a mob, hysterical naysayers, osmosis only nutters etc, by some teachers and consultants. The othering is tiresome.
Lovely blog #RespectForEarlyYears
Had to pop it on my own blog as well - a few reflections on making the leap from primary to early years this term, something I never expected I would do!

@Dr_Pam_Jarvis IMO this should be part of teacher training for all educators regardless of age and stage/ subject. An understanding of child development makes such a difference. Maybe then there would be more #RespectForEarlyyears
Big #shoutout to all of our very own superheroes without capes. The strength and courage they have shown, especially over this last week has been truly overwhelming. Thank you to each and every one of you :)

~ ⭐️Election Time now ⭐️ ~ who is going to help change the early years sector? Time to support parents and early years educators equally 💫
#TimeForChange #RespectForEarlyYears #OneUnitedVoice #BetterRecognitionPayAndConditions #StandWithUsNow

More than any other sector of education, my experience is that early years teachers critically use research to inform their teaching, and skillfully plan learning that and lays the foundations for the future. #respectforEarlyYears #respectforEYFS
