People are already twisting Kalonzo’s words into “he has joined Ruto.” That reading is lazy, and it is useful to the very machine it pretends to fight. Calling Ruto “my brother in Christ” is not a surrender. It is a test of political maturity for anyone who thinks politics is only rage. Kalonzo is doing three things at once: refusing to dehumanise an opponent, signalling that an opposition government will use courts, not death squads, and leaving a door open for Rift Valley voters who are tired of UDA but will never join a revenge project. Read the full line: “Deal with him accordingly” after 2027. That is accountability, not a handshake now. Wiper already said the only meeting before the ballot is the ballot. If you hear “brother” and conclude “sold,” you are thinking like the populism you claim to hate. Nations that survive do not copy the methods of the people they want to replace. Mandela treated de Klerk as a partner in transition while ending apartheid. Kenya’s 2018 handshake stopped a slide back toward 2007. Mature language is not weakness. It is how you win the middle without becoming the thing you oppose. Debate this properly: Should opposition power mean revenge or law? Should we hunt Ruto’s people the way critics were hunted, or prosecute through evidence? Which one actually wins Rift, Coast, and the silent middle? If your politics cannot call an enemy a human being and still defeat him, you are not building a government. You are rehearsing the next cycle of fear. Something similar to what Zambia has turned out to.
