Four hours of discussion on the interpretation of the #runic inscription HARJA on the #Vimose from 160 AD w/ talks by an archeologist, a #runologist and me as the linguist. The climax was when a cake bearing the inscription was brought in. Unlike the comb, the cake is no more!

The #runic inscription (in pink) is tricky & readings have changed over time. I'm no #runologist - a specialist skill well beyond me! - but it *may* refer to the pendant as being someone's reward. Dated to the 5thC, it's thought to be the earliest known inscription in #English.
Always remember to check the normalised texts as well, and be very suspicious of some of the English translations! And if you have a question, ask your friendly neighbourhood #runologist! #runology 2/
