🇺🇸 Republican Congressman Joe Wilson is calling on the NHL to investigate Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin over his appearance in an election ad for Putin’s United Russia party.
Wilson says the NHL superstar’s participation in political propaganda cannot simply be dismissed as something “unrelated to the league,” especially given Ovechkin’s long and well-documented public support for Vladimir Putin.
Ovechkin himself confirmed that he agreed to appear in the video: “They asked me. I said yes. That’s it.”
Being a hockey superstar doesn’t put anyone above scrutiny. When you voluntarily lend your fame and face to the ruling party of Vladimir Putin, people have every right to ask questions — and the NHL has every reason to answer them.
