It's so frustrating seeing people tell the @SECGov they should have 2 factor authentication on, not realizing it would not have mattered because @X allows SMS 2FA and when they have your number they will easily get in your account.

We can confirm that the account @SECGov was compromised and we have completed a preliminary investigation. Based on our investigation, the compromise was not due to any breach of X’s systems, but rather due to an unidentified individual obtaining control over a phone number associated with the @SECGov account through a third party. We can also confirm that the account did not have two-factor authentication enabled at the time the account was compromised. We encourage all users to enable this extra layer of security. Never Google an exchange or wallet to access it. Always manually type addresses in URL. There are a lot of phishing links on Google and social media that will drain your wallet.

I woke up around 3am from reliving the trauma of having my $btc #Bitcoin stolen off of @coinbase and my backed up wallets on Google from my @TMobile account being #simswapped and #tmobile not compensating me for their breach which has caused me emotional trauma $6k BTC lost
Here's my story of being #simswapped a total of 2 times. I subsequently in the first attack lost over 41 #etherem $ETH. My attacker (at least one in a group) was sentenced to 10 years. Learn more. Through it all, I'm blessed to be working now @gridplus and helping others.

SMS is the most frequently used additional factor because almost everybody has it, but it's also the least secure. While it is better than nothing, it's much more secure to use an authenticator/ physical security key.
