We've been doing #DataStewardship for YEARS & have statutory #SafeHavens with #SafeSettings like at @ONS & @NHSDigital, with more #TREs coming online too. So maybe the real question is, what exactly is it that companies want to do with exactly what data that they otherwise can't?

@lawrennd @mireillemoret @SylvieDelacroix @IRMA_privacy 'The details of the management' are fundamental to whether a Trust can be trusted! If a Trust hands out (copies of) personal data, it cannot control what is then done with it - 'fiduciary duty' or not.
We've been playing this out with health data for years, hence #SafeSettings.
@mireillemoret @SylvieDelacroix @lawrennd @IRMA_privacy Will all of these #DataTrusts be running their own #SafeSettings, then? Disseminating individual-level (linked) data under contract's been done; it's not trustworthy. If data can be published in anonymous form (i.e. #statistics) then what's the need for a Trust?
It's all the more complex if the Government decides to ship all our #data abroad, or outsource R&D to #SiliconValley/#Pharma predators.
Instead, why not keep it #sovereign, i.e. in UK-based #SafeSettings, that others pay *to improve & build UK capacity* in order to gain access?
Or, as @medConfidential's been saying for the best part of a decade now, EVERY use of #patients' data must be #consensual, #safe & #transparent!
"Agency" requires 1 & 3 above; use #SafeSettings not https://t.co/90HzdzLKLb & imposing your 'ethics' on others doesn't build #trust...
