For years, Early Years Providers have subsidised the cost of childcare due to the significantly low State expenditure in the sector. Government must act immediately to improve ECCE rates that accurately reflect the true cost of operating childcare.

So short sighted. Tigers at UNSW was literally world leading. Hard to convey adequately to decision makers but it was a truely life-saving place of excellence. Many academics (and associated grants) stayed at UNSW purely to give their kids this incredible start in life.

As an #ECR scientist + mum to 2 kids -who have been lucky enough to attend #EarlyYears #childcare @UNSW since they were babies- I have felt devastated + heartbroken since @UNSW announced they were closing one of these amazing centres centres and privatising the rest 1/6
The amazing @UNSW #EarlyYears educators also looked after our kids thru #COVID19 recently, when any one of our snotty kids couldโve been a danger to them. They turned up to work so we could too.
These centres are SO much more than a financial bottom line. #SaveEarlyYears 6/6
The @UNSW childcare centres provide an invaluable service for both staff & students that cannot be easily quantified in a balance sheet. I appreciate the challenges faced by UNSW right now but sincerely hope they can see the value of this service #SaveEarlyYears

Prepare yourselves for a long thread about the UNSW decision to close one of its #childcare centres...Tonight when I picked my 3 year old up from the centre that is set to close I encountered staff and parents in tears and absolute shock.
One of the things Iโve been most proud about as a @UNSW alumna and staff member is the exceptional quality of our university-run childcare, which reflects the values of a premier education institution and allows us to do the work we do #SaveEarlyYears
