Repairs are profiled from Japanese Tengu tissue (7.3 gsm) and applied to the Athlone Port accounts with wheat starch paste. The tissue strengthens damaged areas while ensuring text is still clearly legible.

One way to reduce the creases in paper made by folds, is to introduce a fine water vapour. The documents are placed in a humidity chamber for just a few minutes as this ultra sonic mist gathers over them. Then they are pressed between blotters& boards. #SavedFromtheFire #WFH
Folding documents was a common way to transport them. It also protected them, as these accounts show. (Athlone Port & District 1786-9). The multiple folds make the paper & parchment difficult to handle & the fold lines are often areas of weakness. @beyond_2022 #SavedFromTheFire
