@MizzouEdBridge A3. I hope my students have access to mental health resources and counseling because I know a lot of students would benefit from it. Especially those who have situations at home that can be tough and don't feel comfortable sharing it with a teacher #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A2. My big take away was how important it is to get to know the students. It feels so important to go beyond just knowing their favorite kind of music or show and getting to know more about the overall community #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge I like Ms. Miller's idea of giving students different ways to show they've mastered the material. Students model their success in different ways, so it makes sense to give them different ways to show they understand the content. #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge I loved how she brought up knowing the demographics of the school. My former host teacher knew all kinds of things like the free and reduced lunch ratio and the average income of the families in the area. She went above and beyond to truly understand her students #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge In terms of getting to know your students and their families, it reminds me of how all the really good teachers at my high school knew who their student's older or younger siblings were and if they've taught them before #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge Hi I’m Ted Stopke. I’m a senior in the College of Education and this is my first time joining this discussion #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge My name is Evan Holder and I'm a senior at the College of Ed, and I joined you all last week! #SayYestoSES
@dcgnm27 @MizzouEdBridge That's a pretty cool mindset to have since one of the most stressful parts of being a kid is time management. Sports, clubs, jobs, and family/friends can be a lot. Adding on busy work can just make things even worse for the student #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A3. I want to try something along the lines of mental health. Be open to mental health breaks, weekly check-ins, and creating a safe environment to share thoughts and feelings. Some kids can't talk about these things at home so I want to give them that opportunity #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A3: I can promote equity in my own classroom by fostering discussion and providing the opportunities necessary for each student’s voice to be heard. It is important to understand student experiences outside of the classroom #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A2: A major takeaway from the interview was students are usually displaying challenging behavior because of overarching problems outside of the classroom. Take the time to build relationships! #SayYestoSES
@dcgnm27 @MizzouEdBridge I think its especially tough for kids since most adults have the belief that they're all full of energy and shouldn't be tired. But kids need plenty of sleep and rest to stay fully engaged in class #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A3: Always assume positive intent of the students entering your classroom! #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A2. I really like the idea of looking at the negative attention the student is seeking to try and understand what's behind it. It's impossible to know everything that's going on in a student's life. #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A big takeaway is being approachable for your students, especially when they’re in a tough situation. By building positive relationships with your students they are more likely to be more open to help and assistance from teachers. #SayYestoSeS
@MizzouEdBridge A3: A part that stuck out, as a future secondary educator, was students coming from low SES backgrounds struggling in the application process for postsecondary education #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A part that stuck out to me was being a positive role model and how it can help students open up to you with their problems and needs #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge I think building those relationships is so important, especially with parents. I've seen some teachers even do a weekly homework alert to parents so they know what their kid should be working on #SayYestoSES
@MizzouEdBridge A1. I’m Sarah Walters. Former teacher. Current Doctoral student in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. First time chatting with #SayYesToSES
@MizzouEdBridge A1: Scott Wittenborn, 10 years with CPS and I attended last year. #SayYestoSES
