Athletic's Article about the Liverpool manager selection process is a very interesting one. Here are some points:
- Michel Edwards and Will Spearman with their team of analysts were tasked to find a replacement from Klopp
- Owners put up a management team to find Klopps successor
- Liverpool wanted a coach who can play dynamic, high energy possession based football.
- They wanted to make the right choice not the most popular one.
- Klopp himself was chosen after a data analysis done on coaches by Michel Edwards in 2015
- Despite finishing 7th in the league data showed that Klopp's team was performing really well and it was bad luck
- Spearman developed an algorithm that evaluated coaches on tactical performances, player development etc. Slot came out at the top
- Not convinced about Amorim's 3 at the back would suit the current Liverpool squad.
- Simone Inzaghi and Fonseca and Spaletti were also considered
- Considered but felt his style of play was not compatible with Liverpools
