@ljevanso@UA_magazine Can you check with @madhumalaks? She was involved in organising childcare for Genetics Society of America conferences (https://t.co/zvNw2X5CjV). It's not in Canada, but may be helpful
Today is #WorldHearingDay! If you've ever wondered how children with hearing loss learn to interact with the world, please see this thread by the ever-inspiring @mahitajarjapu
March 3rd is #WorldHearingDay.
Did you know that while newborn screening for hearing loss is mandatory in many countries, it is carried out only in very few hospitals in India. Read on to know how early diagnosis & intervention in babies determines their ability to speak. 1/7
There once was an oath that all doctors had to take. Something about doing the right thing, and trying not to hurt anyone.
That was long ago, in the 21st century, before the machines. My great-grandfather took that oath.

"Pay yourself first."
Meaning start your day with your writing project. Before you address the needs of everyone around you. Or get lost in your emails. Because your needs matter too.
Great reminder from @NCFDD! @OpenAcademics@PhD_Genie

I feel like some degree of weirdness is intrinsic to science writing (hard to find people outside of researchers who get excited about things like snail shell colours)...glad to see it can also be an interviewing skill
Asking dumb questions can actually help to get insightful answers,
Character, motivation, actions, and surprise are key elements of good interviews,
Don't always ask normal questions --- Be Weird
Look for images and anecdotes,

I've been thinking about how to make sure my long-term investments and retirement funds don't end up in fossil fuel and pollution-heavy companies. This article comes at a good time.
Accepting and rejecting papers is an archaic practice that is terrible for science. It strips peer review of its value & institutionalizes the practice of judging scientists based on where, rather than what, they publish. It's time for this system to go.

I was on my way to receive the Pulitzer award ( @Pulitzerprizes) in New York but I was stopped at immigration at Delhi airport and barred from traveling internationally despite holding a valid US visa and ticket.
