The $590,477 Direct Cash portion package includes:
✅Lump-sum payment equal to 18 months of salary at Barnes’ rate of $179.54 per hour totaling approximately $560,165.
✅12 months of COBRA health coverage for him and covered family members at $2,525.99 per month totaling $30,312
✅Unused accrued vacation is to be cashed out under city policy; other leave balances are handled per policy
City of Seattle waives the following repayment requirements for Barnes (he keeps these):
✅$50,000 hiring incentive
✅ $60,000 relocation reimbursement
Conditions of Agreement:
👉Barnes releases the city from all known and unknown claims arising from his employment or resignation, including discrimination and civil-rights claims under federal, state and local law
👉Agrees not to sue the city or its officers/employees over those matters and to withdraw any existing agency complaints
👉Agrees to pay the city’s costs and attorney fees if he breaches the agreeement
The agreement took effect July 30, 2026, which was also the agree upon final date of employment for Barnes.
