If the allegations are confirmed, this is not about one religion versus another - forced marriage, #sexual_violence and coercion against a minor are serious crimes and human-rights violations.
Being a religious minority should never mean living without safety, freedom or equal protection under the law.

Sexual violence is being used as a weapon in #Sudan’s war, doctors group says
#Sexual_violence against women and girls is being used as a weapon of war in Sudan ‘s fierce conflict between the military and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (#RSF), international aid group Doctors Without Borders said in a report Tuesday.
Sudan slid into chaos in April 2023 when a power struggle between the two forces exploded into open fighting in Khartoum and elsewhere. The International Criminal Court is investigating mass killings, gang rapes and other crimes during the conflict as potential war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Doctors Without Borders, known by its French acronym #MSF, detailed in its report the accounts of women who were gang raped in the South #Darfur and North Darfur regions.
MSF said that at least 3,396 survivors of sexual violence sought treatment at their facilities between January 2024 and November 2025. The group said most of the survivors identified the perpetrators as armed men, with 60% of the cases in South Darfur involving multiple perpetrators.
In the report, one survivor narrated her horrific ordeal. “They took us to an open area. The first man raped me twice, the second once, the third four times,” she is quoted in the report as saying.
MSF Emergency Coordinator Myriam Laroussi, who was in Tawila, North Darfur, supporting teams in late 2025 after the fall of #El_Fasher, told journalists at the report launch in #Nairobi, #Kenya, that the numbers captured in the report were just a “tip of the iceberg” and that the scale of the sexual violence is bigger in areas where MSF lacks access.
An MSF midwife, Gloria Endreo, said the team saw an average of 10 to 15 women daily, with most of them coming after the initial 72 hours, which are considered a critical period for treating injuries and trauma, avoiding infections and preventing unwanted pregnancies. Most victims have to walk for days or get a camel ride to Tawila.
“As healthcare practitioners, we consider the 72 hours as a golden period because we provide a lot of care within that period,” Endreo said.

#WHO warns nearly 840 million women, one in three, have faced sexual or partner violence
Nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide, an estimated 840 million, have experienced partner or #sexual_violence in their lifetime, according to a landmark report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) and #UN partners.
The report highlights that in the past 12 months alone, 316 million women, or 11% of women aged 15 and older, were subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner.
For the first time, the study also estimates that 263 million women have experienced non-partner sexual violence since age 15, a figure experts say is significantly underreported due to stigma and fear.
The report warns that progress in reducing violence against women has been slow, with only a 0.2% annual decline over the past two decades, while funding for prevention programs has fallen. Vulnerable populations, including adolescents, women in conflict-affected and climate-sensitive areas, and marginalized groups, face the highest risks.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the crisis “one of humanity’s oldest and most pervasive injustices,” emphasizing that ending violence against women is a matter of human rights, dignity, and equality.
#UN agencies stressed the urgent need for political commitment, increased funding, and stronger survivor-centered services to break cycles of abuse and protect women and girls worldwide.

Mohamed Babiker said #Eritrea has a policy of indefinite national service, including a civil service component and a military service component. He said it has ignored numerous calls from human rights bodies to ensure legal limits for the duration of such service and to protect the human rights of all participants.
While Eritrea maintains its national service program is “unfairly judged,” Babiker said he continues to receive “numerous and credible reports of grave human rights violation in the context of forced national/military service.”
