Morning in Fairview. Even with whole street to themselves motorists appear to delibarately snuggle-park up to #BananaBarriers on 2400 block of Alder; blocks thru-way for cyclists but apparently the drivers feel better knowing the #SlowStreet barricade has their back! #Vancouver

Note that @DailyHiveVan fans the flames by including the ⛔️ symbol in their tweet. But these #SlowStreet barriers don’t prevent drivers from entering streets at all - they simply restrict them to single lane access.

Each of 3 #BananaBarrier pairs along Alder St. tween W Broadway & 12th have lost one of its retroreflective "#SlowStreet" signs. At 12th, reflectors have hastily been stuck on barriers (some have fallen to pavement) & tree stuff is already accumulating in "bike lane". #Vancouver
The @CityofVancouver's #SlowStreet banana barriers are like CoV's #CupFee. They build in disinsentive to driving but don't insentivise walking or cycling. By design they can even block cyclists by allowing vehicles to park far too close to mouth of barrier cycle path. #Vancouver

PISSED-OFF DRIVERS. The final decision by SFMTA making Lake St a “Slow Street” has dismayed open-street activists so badly, they exact revenge by driving at high speed or recklessly into oncoming traffic lane. Someone will be injured or killed. Shame on you people!
@VanPoliMorphus The point is to remind drivers to SLOW down and watch for pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists. And given the damage many of the #SlowStreet barriers have received it's a good indication of either driver anger or driver incompetence.
Seeing these paint outlines on a #slowstreet in east Vancouver, I am wondering if we are going to see some more permanent infrastructure? Would be great to see some #concrete. Layout look like it would allow bikes on both sides and one vehicle as big as an 18 wheeler in center!
We're in progress of implementing the largest #SlowStreet installation yet in Jefferson Park w/ @UNNC! Improvements include five traffic circles, signage, and center line dividers to slow vehicles, prevent street takeovers, and encourage residents to enjoy being active outdoors.
