89° F air temp. Exposed soil is 121.5° F. 12 inches away the soil under the shade of cover crop residue is 86.5° F. That’s 35° cooler under #soilarmor on a hot summer day. I hope the microbes enjoy the shade! Soybean field in northcental Iowa.
