At #StandardBankAGM today, the board said they have 'reviewed' @TotalEnergies' @MOZLNG project in #CaboDelgado #Mozambique &even though it has devastated the economy & communities before operations have even begun, the bank will continue to finance it! #ClimateCrisis #StopEACOP
TODAY While @StandardBankZA - which is still too focused on fossil fuels - has its AGM, @Earthlife_JHB & others are making noise "We need a #JustTransition! Stop putting profits before people."
When will this country's decision makers - the ones who decide what to do with SA's monies - when will they decide to listen to what the people want and need? We need decisive #ClimateActionNow and it must be a #JustTransition @ClimateZA @DMRE_ZA @StandardBankZA @BarbaraCreecy_
We used to believe that the people's voices matter. Yet, now we are ignored so that companies can make more profits. @StandardBankZA when will you listen to the people of this country? #StopFossilFuels #StandardBankAGM #StopEACOP #NoGasMoz #StrandedBank
And @StandardBankZA says it is satisfied that it does not have any climate denialists on its board. Weird flex but okay.

Watch this thread for all the goss. #StandardBankAGM
We're tuning into the #StandardBankAGM which is about to start💥
Today, shareholders have the opportunity to hold

@StandardBankZA investing in clean energy will create more jobs for East Africans as opposed to fossil fuel investments #StopEACOP #StandardBankAGM (TBC)
@StandardBankZA financing a new oil pipeline in the midst of a #climateemergency is grossly irresponsible. Do not finance the EACOP and promote investment in clean energy for East Africa instead! #StopEACOP #StandardBankAGM (TBC)
Ahead of @StandardBankZA's Annual General Meetings, share your #StopEACOP selfie & message here & we'll make sure shareholders can't ignore it! Together we can stop the East African Crude Oil Pipeline https://t.co/UFQuN5Pbdl

#StandardBankAGM The board & executives faced a barrage of questions from activist shareholders about the bank’s approach to financing fossil fuels, and the climate & human rights impacts of oil & gas projects in Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique.

It's wrongly advised to #Uganda & #Tanzania Govmnts that #Eacop will create jobs.
But investing in clean energy will create more jobs and secure our future.
It's also nonsense to, first kill(pollute) & then, heal.
Soon,globally, polluters will pay.

Today has proven yet again that you can take on the fossil fuel industry...and win.
I wrote up a few reflections on what I think will be seen as a historic moment in the fight against fossil fuels. https://t.co/j7NIEwMeOh

Diana from Uganda is at #StandardBankAGM challenging the bank on its finance for EACOP and its community consultation.
I'm attending the @StandardBankZA AGM this morning, with @JustShareSA and other stakeholders concerned about various ESG issues. This is what I asked:
#StandardBankAGM #climaterisk #ESG We need a climate competent board at Africa's biggest bank.
Some of the photos just from today of people around the world calling on @Total and @StandardBankZA to #stopEACOP. From Paris to Ghana. Let's see tomorrow if Standard Bank is listening. #StandardBankAGM
This evening Ugandan human rights defender Maxwell Atuhura of @AfiegoUg remains in jail. We call on @StandardBankZA, as advisor to the Ugandan govt on #EACOP, to urgently contact its client to urge his immediate release. #StandardBankAGM #BizHumanRights https://t.co/fE4Ye4FAKs
🚨🇺🇬#Uganda: #HumanRights defender Maxwell Atuhuru & Italian #journalist Federica Marsi were arrested yesterday while investigating on @Total's oil projects in the country.
📢 We ask for the immediate release of Maxwell, who's still detained! #ForFreedom

We're attending the @StandardBankZA AGM tomorrow. Expect plenty of questions on the bank's climate record and apparent kamikaze willingness to fund some of Africa's biggest and worst fossil fuel projects. #StandardBankAGM #StopEACOP #NoGazMoz #StrandedBank
