Just a cute reminder that wood is good in streams and rivers. While it may be tempting to remove sticks and logs that end up in a river, they actually provide many biological and physical benefits and are best left where they are.

Yesterday was the Marsh Creek Community Day for raising local awareness and participation in the upcoming 319 Watershed Management Plan. The great weather and great lineup of demonstrations really brought out a big crowd. #StreamHealth was a big part of the conversation.

Streambank erosion occurs when the banks of rivers or streams are slowly degraded due to high streamflow, often after a heavy rain. It is a naturally occurring process, but human-made alterations such as construction and development can accelerate it.

Macroinvertebrates are important indicators of stream health and when the macroinvertebrates start to disappear so do the fish. @TroutUnlimited and @AllianceForBay are planting forest buffers to protect streams and creatures that depend on them.

Today’s #MacroMonday🔎 is the #Caddisflylarvae🐛 #Caddisflies are great indicators of #streamhealth & some even build cocoons using a variety of organic materials. These cases function as protective armor against predators & can be made from plants, small stones, & sand grains!

#WaterWednesday - Stoneflies
Stonefly nymphs are one of the most pollution-sensitive orders of aquatic insects, so they are commonly used as bioindicators of aquatic ecosystem health.
