After #T2DProject completion, vehicles journeying along T2D motorway will bypass 21 sets of traffic lights and save up to 40 minutes during peak hour traffic. This will also enhance safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: https://t.co/Ro5SnakgEn

The biggest road project ever undertaken by the state, the #T2DProject will shape the future for SA. It will consist of two sets of twin tunnels, joined by an open motorway: https://t.co/gj3pudMxTw

The #T2DProject is the biggest road project ever undertaken in South Australia.
Delivered jointly by the Australian and South Australian governments, this final 10.5km stretch of the North-South Corridor will shape our future: https://t.co/YHmZXoWqNy
A ‘laydown area’ is where we’ll temporarily store equipment and supplies for use during #T2DProject construction.
They'll be located along the project corridor, with the main laydown areas at the tunnel portals.
The main laydown areas are where we’ll launch and retrieve TBMs.

Our tunnel boring machines will be about 100m long - that's about half the length of Glenelg jetty!
They’ll be designed to suit the ground conditions for the Project and will operate 24/7, progressing about 8-10m per day.

Short sections at the ends of #T2DProject tunnels will be constructed using ‘cut and cover’ methodology to facilitate launching/retrieval of TBMs.
Once tunnels are complete, the sections will be covered and form part of the new motorway or house tunnel facilities.

The Big Galah in Kimba on the Eyre Peninsula stands at 8m tall, which seems pretty big. But our tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be almost two times the size of that, at 15m high!

Line marking is underway along South Road between Glandore and Melrose Park, which means resurfacing works on this section are close to completion.
This picture shows newly marked lines on the new road surface.

Ground investigations tell us about all sorts of conditions underground – including the distribution of groundwater.
The data we gather from groundwater tests forms a baseline so that we can monitor conditions during construction and into the future.

A 78km non-stop mwy connecting the north of Adelaide to the south - sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?
#T2DProject will make this a reality, delivering faster & more reliable travel times.
We’re building the last piece of the North-South Corridor & unlocking opportunities for SA
How heavy is a tunnel boring machine (TBM)? Probably a lot heavier than you may think!
Our TBMs will weigh up to 5,000 tonnes, which is about as heavy as 1,000 elephants 🐘

Our TBMs will be some of the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere.
They’ll be designed to suit the ground conditions for the #T2DProject and will be operated by up to 20 specially trained people from inside.
This diagram shows some key features.

Our tunnel boring machines will be 15m in diameter - but just how big is that?
Some familiar SA icons can help you picture it 🐝

A key component to prepare for the arrival of #T2DProject tunnel boring machines is constructing a ‘launch box’.
This is a massive ‘cut and cover’ trench cut deep enough to allow the TBMs to start tunnelling at the required gradient.

Ever wondered how tunnel boring machines (TBMs) work?
This animation shows how they cut through the ground, move forward, and construct the tunnel walls – all at a depth of up to 30m below ground for the #T2DProject

The #T2DProject tunnel safety systems will work together to monitor traffic conditions and trigger appropriate responses in the event of an incident, quick smart.

Around 3km of South Road between Glandore and Melrose Park is set to be resurfaced.
Works will be undertaken on northbound and southbound lanes at night, commencing in May. Completion is expected in June.
