History has shown the consequences of portraying disabled people as burdens. Some of the darkest regimes in history justified discrimination, exclusion, starvation, forced sterilisation & even killing by first convincing society that disabled people were worth less than everyone else.
The moment politicians and media outlets began treating disabled people as a problem to be managed rather than people to be protected, they started on the path to repeating the same dehumanising logic that has underpinned some of history's most shameful injustices.

@Helen_Whately says welfare should be a safety net, not a “lifestyle choice”.
This from the former Care Minister who held responsibility during the first 18 months of Covid, when older and disabled people were catastrophically failed.
Now disabled people are being presented as an electoral “risk” because PIP claimants outnumber Labour majorities in many constituencies.
We are not a threat or a problem to manage.
We are voters, and so are our families, friends and carers. PIP helps meet the extra costs of disability. It is not an unemployment benefit or a lifestyle choice.
