It suggests you should report only if you are a victim or survivor. And that in the case of #thatpaper a complaint to the uni would be better.
But without a police report, the police could not have taken action.

Oh it gets worse. Not only has this man published #thatpaper and made an absolute mockery of #qualitativeresearch AND promoted paedophilia, he also made his own collection of child pornography. And got funded. For a PhD. In masturbating to children. Make it make sense.

I’ve just read #thatpaper and can’t see why anyone thought it worthy of publication. Even putting considerations of sexual content aside, it doesn’t constitute research imo. It’s just a very slight and self-indulgent piece masquerading as autoethnography.
I find the whole ‘ethic committees are there to consider the safety of participant & not the morality of research’ a pretty straw man argument in regards to #thatpaper.
The research was using child sexual abuse material (Shota) which is illegal in the UK.
This is a really important 🧵in light of #ThatPaper (but not only). A must for teaching ethical engagements with #ethnography.
@gavmaclean @DrFloraPoste @KirstySedgman From what colleagues tell me I'm almost sure that the #ThatPaper project (as distinct from the proposed PhD fieldwork, which was rejected) was not seen by the ethics committee.
I can only guess that the author assumed it was not needed. I don't think that's correct, but...
The fact that the author of #ThatPaper isn't actually undertaking his PhD in an anthropology dept, but that Academic Twitter is *committed* to ignoring this, is testament to how much everyone hates anthropologists. And I think that's beautiful.
