McConnell BLASTS MAGA, Claims Reagan "Wouldn’t Even Recognize" the GOP Under Trump So yeah, Mitch McConnell is coming out pretty strong against the whole MAGA thing. In this new biography The Price of Power—which is about him, by the way—he's basically saying the GOP is unrecognizable compared to the Reagan era. McConnell claims that Trump and his movement have totally shifted the party away from the ideals Reagan had in mind. He even went as far as to say that Reagan “wouldn’t recognize” today’s Republican Party, which is kind of a big deal 'cause Reagan’s still like, this icon for conservatives [1][2]. It’s wild, though, to hear this coming from McConnell, who’s, let’s be real, been walking a tightrope with Trump for a while. But now he's saying outright that MAGA is “entirely misguided” and that Trump’s leadership has damaged the party’s reputation and ability to compete [1][2]. It’s a pretty clear sign that McConnell’s not here for Trump’s version of conservatism... even if he’s worked with Trump in the past when it suited his agenda. Interesting to see what kind of fallout this might cause within the party, especially with how influential the MAGA base still is. Feels like McConnell’s trying to distance himself a bit more now, maybe thinking about the future of the GOP without Trump at the center [2][3].
