My role as dep chair of the Oakervee Report on HS2 finished yesterday. Report not finished and no opportunity to influence conclusions. We are told that, when completed by Doug O and the DfT secretariat, it will be locked into the DfT vaults for the new S of S to publish.

#TonyBerkeley publishes #MichaelByng 's latest estimate of the cost of #HS2 Phase 1. He now puts the cost at £51bn. If true this leaves little of the official £56bn for phases 2a and 2b
HS2 Phase 1 costs now £51bn, due to increased scope, according to M Byng's new 4k+ page estimate. DfT still cling onto their £24bn, priced in 2013, but few in the sector believe them. DfT never challenged M Byng's methodology. Time to pause and descope.
