Comment by an Afrikaner farmer: "I am the 10th generation farmer in the Overberg region since 1713. My stamvader arrived shortly after 1652 in the Cape from Hoorn West Frisia. My family worked this land almost a 100 years before the first invading Xhosa tribes crossed the Fishriver into the Cape under Rarabe and other Chieftans, burning down more than 200 Boer farmsteads on the eastern border regions. My forefathers started farming in the Overberg region after the smallpocks epidemic killing 9 out of every 10 Khoi people in the region. Before this no farmers was needed in the Overberg because good quality meat was bartered from the Khoi. After the pocks the HOIK had to send in farmers to the region as stock farmers for the need of cattle and sheep for the ships. We are more indigenous than any of the black tribes!!! We are the white tribe of Africa."
