Many families likewise were happy with the outcome of their loved one’s lobotomy. That doesn’t mean we should still be performing ovariotomies and lobotomies. Both caused terrible harm. What I actually said about gender-affirming surgeries in this context was this: “Today, many people will say that they are happy with the results of their transition, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
