#China's total #tungsten product imports in August 2026 reached 5,600t, up 39% MoM from July.
Estimated metal content is 2,480t, up 97.8% YoY.
Cumulative tungsten product imports in 2026 totaled 25,800t, up 91.7% YoY.
All this on the backdrop of Western prices being circa $3,000 per mtu, and Chinese APT prices around $1500. This is a manipulated market.
Although China's tungsten reserves account for about 80% of global reserves, domestic ore grades are declining year by year.
Elmet signs offtake with Tungsten West to buy concentrates, and ship them to Masan for processing.
Essentially a tolling arrangement for Elmet.
Brilliant agreements executed by Elmet, that's for sure.
Pretty much tied up end-to-end & benefit from all parties.

What is important about this transaction is it is feeding directly into the defence sector, and probable US Govt stockpiling. This does little to alleviate pricing stress in the #tungsten market, and keeps prices high.
