#ukdatabase A paedophile who photographed and videotaped himself abusing a young girl and who discussed plans with other perverts to attack the child again has been RELEASED from prison. Craig Crowther, from Northwich, was jailed for four years and four months at Chester Crown Court on April 14, 2022. His release has now been confirmed by the UK Database. Behind the online username “craggy2014”, Crowther repeatedly discussed his sexual interest in children with other offenders. He told one user he had access to a child he had already sexually abused, then shared abuse images online. In another conversation, he boasted about taking a sexually explicit photograph of a sleeping child he had assaulted. He also discussed plans to carry out further abuse. When National Crime Agency officers arrested him on July 21, 2020, they uncovered 56 indecent images of children on his phone, spanning categories A, B and C. Thirty-five had been taken by Crowther himself. Among them was a sequence showing him sexually assaulting a child. Investigators believed these were thumbnail images from a video he had described recording and subsequently deleting. Some of the material recovered matched images he had circulated online. He also shared photographs of children’s clothing to demonstrate his access to a child. Crowther admitted three counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13 by touching, three counts of making indecent images of children, two counts of taking indecent images and two counts of distributing them. He pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates’ Court on February 11, 2022. His prison term was reduced from six years and six months to four years and four months to reflect his early guilty plea. His release means an offender who committed contact sexual abuse, recorded it, and shared material with others is back in the community. The concern about future harm rests on his established conduct: repeated assaults, direct access to a child, the production and distribution of abuse images, and conversations about further offending. Those facts warrant serious concern, although they do not establish that he has committed another offence since release. Under the terms reported at sentencing, Crowther must remain on licence for four years following release. He is also subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must remain on the sex offenders register for life. His prison sentence has ended. The lifelong restrictions imposed on him remain. Crowther’s release raises serious safeguarding concerns because his offending involved direct sexual assaults on a child, recording the abuse and sharing images with other offenders. He used his access to a child to cause harm, then discussed plans to abuse that child again. That willingness to repeat the abuse is particularly disturbing. His online conversations and distribution of images show that the offending extended beyond the assaults themselves: he shared evidence of a child’s suffering with others who had a sexual interest in children. Electric chair.
