Craig Crowther, from Northwich, was jailed for four years and four months at Chester Crown Court on April 14, 2022. His release has now been confirmed by the UK Database. Behind the online username “craggy2014”, Crowther repeatedly discussed his sexual interest in children with other offenders. He told one user he had access to a child he had already sexually abused, then shared abuse images online. In another conversation, he boasted about taking a sexually explicit photograph of a sleeping child he had assaulted. He also discussed plans to carry out further abuse. When National Crime Agency officers arrested him on July 21, 2020, they uncovered 56 indecent images of children on his phone, spanning categories A, B and C. Thirty-five had been taken by Crowther himself. Among them was a sequence showing him sexually assaulting a child. Investigators believed these were thumbnail images from a video he had described recording and subsequently deleting. Some of the material recovered matched images he had circulated online. He also shared photographs of children’s clothing to demonstrate his access to a child. Crowther admitted three counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13 by touching, three counts of making indecent images of children, two counts of taking indecent images and two counts of distributing them. He pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates’ Court on February 11, 2022. His prison term was reduced from six years and six months to four years and four months to reflect his early guilty plea.
