Amara, a 22-year-old college student, found herself pregnant after a night with her boyfriend. Feeling trapped and alone, she turned to an online website for a "quick fix" abortion solution.

In Kenya alone, 465,000 abortions occur annually, with most being unsafe.

✍️Collaborating with religious leaders in Yimbo West, Bondo Sub-county, we engaged 24 young mothers at Usenge Church in a dialogue session on #contraceptives, #ASRHRS, #unsafeAbortion #GBV empowering them to make informed decisions for their reproductive health.
✍️The session provided in-depth information on key reproductive health topics, such as:
I) Different contraceptive methods: Pills, IUDs, implants, condoms, injections.
II) Benefits and side effects of each method
Choosing the right method for individual needs.
III) Importance of spacing pregnancies for maternal and child health.
IV) Dispelling common myths and misconceptions about contraceptives.
✍️The session positively impacted participants by:
I) Deepening their understanding of contraceptive methods.
II) Empowering them to make informed decisions regarding family planning.
III) Increasing their awareness of the health benefits of spacing pregnancies.
IV) Fostering a supportive community among participants through dispelling common myths and misconceptions about contraceptives
✍️6 young mothers expressed interest to access contraceptive and HTS services as well becoming peer educators to organise continuous sessions within their community groups.
✍️Participants shared personal stories of overcoming reproductive health challenges.
✍️To ensure long-term impact:
-Collaboratea with community and partners to organize follow-up sessions and outreaches for continued learning, access to #SRHR services and support.
-Encourage community gate keepers to become advocates for family planning within their communities.
-Foster ongoing community discussions to address any new concerns or questions, ensuring the sustainability of the program.

✍️We convened @of_siaya CHMT meeting to assess & understand the #triplethreat situation in Siaya county, strategies being actioned by the department to address the alarming prevalence of #teenpregnancy, #unsafeAbortion, New #HIV & #STI infections among adolescents and young people, cases of #GBV and #SGBV.
✍️With the support of @TICAH_KE, we reviewed the existing National & County youth & SRHR, guidelines, policies and frameworks that are aimed at curbing the triple threat in Siaya and promoting #ASRHRS. Implementation gaps and interventions purposed to support implementation.
✍️On the multisectoral approach, we explored collaboration opportunities on Advocacy, implementation of the policies and frameworks, and promotion of access to information and service uptake among #AYP.
☑️The dept pointed out the Siaya RMNCAH BILL 2024 which seeks to promote advocacy for key ASRHR activities.
☑️Working closely with the Department of Education on continuation with the school health CLUBS.
☑️Implementation of the AYP action plan that seeks to engage the youth to understand their health and social needs.
☑️The facilities' grievances address mechanism that seeks to monitor challenges youths face in accessing #SRH services access and uptake.

✍️Continuous sensitization and awareness creation on #ASRHRS, #HIV #GBV, #SGBV, #mentalhealth #contraceptive #Condom_use #teen_pregnancy and #unsafeAbortion in institutions of higher learning is a step towards elimination of the #triplethreat among the youths.
✍️Use of dialogue, questions & answers and use of art to convey information has worked well while engaging learners at Jooust most of them being first years . The approaches to relay correct information on #ASRHRS, demystifying myths and misconceptions, informing the youths on service refferal, linkage and uptake from linked facilities.
