📍Today in Kigali, I had the privilege to attend the official launch of the Food and Agriculture Resilience Mission – Pillar 3 (FARM P3), a bold, transformative initiative hosted by @IFAD , implemented in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda, and aligned with the ongoing Kayonza Irrigation and Integrated Watershed Management Project (KIIWP2).
🌾 #FARM_P3 is not just a project, it’s a mission.
A mission to empower 4,000 smallholder farmers in Kayonza District by:
✅ Reducing post-harvest losses (which reach 13.8% in maize)
✅ Improving access to drying technologies (30 drying shelters + mobile dryers)
✅ Strengthening maize and soybean value chains
✅ Enhancing farmer incomes and access to markets
✅ Fostering deeper collaboration with private sector and development partners
🤝 The launch, held at Hotel des Mille Collines, brought together 70+ key stakeholders in Rwanda’s agri-food system, including:
✍️Farmer cooperatives supported by KIIWP2
✍️Seed multipliers & agro-dealers
✍️Input suppliers & processors
✍️Off-takers, aggregators & storage service providers
✍️Banks & SACCOs
✍️Government representatives from @RwandaAgriBoard and MINAGRI [@RwandaAgri ]
✍️Development partners such as @FAO, @WFP, @Avril, and @IDH
💬 Key highlights from the workshop included:
📌 Deep-dive presentations on matching grants and agri-loan products, offering farmers new financing pathways.
📌 A compelling presentation of the soybean service delivery model by @IDH, showing opportunities for investment and value creation.
📌 Parallel sessions that fostered:
✍️Market matchmaking between cooperatives & buyers
✍️Bank–farmer engagement for financing solutions
✍️Donor–government roundtable discussions on coordination & synergy
📈 This pilot, backed by $1.23 million, blends funding from FARM P3, private sector actors, and RAB, and complements the broader KIIWP2 program (2021–2028), which serves over 40,000 rural households in Eastern Rwanda.
