This is what #Missouri legislators have in store for us. They are so hoping amendment 5 passes. They have tax bills waiting in the wings. I'm sure there are others but I just ran across HB 2609 "Fair Tax Act 2026" filed in January to implement a 5.11% broad sales tax with a "one-time adjustment." Keep in mind this 5.11% would be on top of the existing 4.22% state tax. Analysis shows 5.11% won't be sufficient. It's more likely that the "one-time adjustment" could raise as high as 8-12% bringing a combined sales tax rate (current local + Fair tax) of 15-20%. As of May it's sitting in committee as "emerging issues" just waiting.

Pay attention to the Mo Sec of State page itself BEFORE the court made them reword the ballot language and AFTER. Notice the highlighted yellow areas. They ADMIT they have no idea how it will impact taxes. Don’t believe me, go to the page yourselves!
