We cannot let water from another wet year go to waste, and we cannot let the lessons learned from last year’s storms be in vain.
The time to prepare for dry years is now.
California unfortunately has missed so many opportunities to secure our water supplies because Governor Newsom and Sacramento Democrats refuse to invest in above ground water storage.
Having endured years of drought and now with flooding this year, more water storage is essential and needed. It is a travesty that in a budget of over $300 billion, there is not one additional dollar put toward above ground water storage.
Water storage & infrastructure equals affordable housing, flood safety, and cheaper groceries.
Last night, I joined @NextRevFNC for a discussion on California’s water policy and solutions to the issues we’re facing as a state.
Water shortages are a choice we made a generation ago when we stopped building new reservoirs to meet the needs of a growing population. My bill, H.R. 186 will bring order from bureaucratic chaos as it streamlines the process to build new reservoirs.

We’ve wasted nearly $20 billion on this high cost rail project with very little to show for it. Completing the project will cost a minimum of another $100 billion. A small fraction of this money would have financed the construction of all the water storage California ever needs.
Thank you to @RepDuarteCA13 @RepDavidValadao @RepMcClintock @RepLaMalfa for holding @NatResources subcommittee field hearing in the Central Valley to highlight the need for this critical water infrastructure in California. #WaterStorageNow

Good News: CA’s snowpack is 181% of average for this time of year.
Bad News: CA hasn’t built new water storage in 40 years.
If we are to endure more drought, we need to be prepared to keep what we get & stop wasting precious water to the sea!
Build #WaterStorageNow.

Our snowpack is the deepest it’s been in 4 decades.
But what hasn't been built in 4 decades? New water storage.
