Although the operation in which Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was killed was carried out by the Mexican Army, a joint task force between the U.S. and Mexico also participated, according to a U.S. official who spoke to The Washington Post on condition of anonymity.
According to his statements, it is a unit known as the 'Joint Interagency Anti-Cartel Task Force', which was established last month and is based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in the state of Arizona.
Shortly after the operation, the Mexican Embassy in the U.S. asserted on social media that it " was planned and executed by Mexican Special Forces," citing a post by journalist Laura Loomer, who claimed that the operation against 'El Mencho' was the responsibility of the U.S. "This information is false," the Embassy stated.
The U.S. contributed "complementary intelligence"
In that same publication, the Legation added that the action, which culminated in the death of Oseguera Cervantes, "was carried out within the framework of bilateral cooperation, with US authorities providing complementary intelligence."
Following the events, which have caused chaos in the state of Jalisco due to the violent response from other cartel members, the National Defense Secretariat provided details about the operation in Tapalpa and specified that while the uniformed officers were trying to capture the drug trafficker, they were attacked and, in repelling the aggression, they killed four members of the CJNG at the scene and seriously injured three more.
"They lost their lives during their transfer by air to Mexico City; among the latter is Rubén 'N' (a) Mencho; however, the corresponding authorities will be in charge of the expert activities for their identification," Defence indicated.

#Mexico: Federal & state authorities have deployed security forces in the affected areas to try to clear the highways and remove the damaged vehicles.
Governments such as those of #Jalisco & #Michoacán have established security task forces to coordinate the response to the blockades and attacks against transport vehicles.
At least 21 road blockades were reported this Sunday in various Mexican states, with vehicles set on fire and disruptions to main and secondary roads in Jalisco, Querétaro, Michoacán, Colima, Guerrero, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Zacatecas and Tamaulipas, reports El Universal.
