Read about our science-farming earthworm survey partnership, just published @AABiologists Thanks to @SRUC for supporting open access, my co-author Prof. Goulding @Rothamsted & #30minworms #worldwormweek community @DefraSoils @louisearable @ukfarming

@garethgrassland Good question Gareth. Do feel you can be precise with yield and SR. Actions to increase OM and worms are like shooting blindfolded. Worm counts are tricky as they are very variable through the year. Gutted that #worldwormweek didn’t happen this March.
UK Study: 42% of fields may be over-worked as indicated by low earthworm "ecosystem engineer" counts. Arable land ranges 30 to 1,110 individuals per sq meter. Note: Ley-farming is a traditional rotational system. https://t.co/aOlghV7J9J #soilhealth #worldwormweek

They’re talking about our farmland earthworm survey on the BBC!!! #WorldWormWeek Thanks @ChrisGPackham @michaelastracha for a super feature on worms @BBCSpringwatch

We almost forgot to mention, after the #superwormmoon it just so happens that we celebrated #WorldWormWeek. It is never too late to shine the spotlight on these little legless #EcosystemEngineers, in our humble opinions😉
And that’s a wrap for the @UniRdg_GES MSc field class with a visit to @Rothamsted North Wyke for a belated #WorldWormWeek

Since working with the @TheAHDB #soilheathandbiology project we've really been focusing on these wee guys. They are the workhorses of the farm, driving our soil health.

#worldwormweek was last week but better late than never - three fields averaging 30, 17 and 37 worms per 20cm3 pit. Highest pit count 47, lowest 15. 8 years ago I counted worms and average was around 6. Pleased as all I had to do was paddock graze and not spend money on fert.

It's not all fun and games for earthworms, especially after the introduction of New Zealand flatworms to the UK in the early 1960s. These invertebrates wrap themselves around worms and digest them, severely depleting earthworm populations in some cases. #WorldWormWeek
Want to make sure your garden or fields stay worm-friendly? Professor Bryan Griffiths lists his top tips, including not using excess fertiliser and trying to avoid too much digging over the soil, to keep the earthworms happy and keep our soils healthy. #WorldWormWeek
Earthworms play an important role in keeping soils healthy, including helping with drainage and soil structure.
Professor Bryan Griffiths talks us through the different types of worm you might spot in your garden or field this #WorldWormWeek ⬇️
Amazing - over 9000 earthworms studied!! Did you know #WorldWormWeek has been tried in every (non-ice) continent - special thanks to my amazing colleagues @INIA_UY - look at these colourful earthworms from under notill corn in Uruguay!! @Rothamsted

@olylowe I feel the tide is changing oly. I could certainly name plenty.👍 This was part of #WorldWormWeek survey, conducted by @wormscience from Rothamsted.
#WorldWormWeek 18 worms in field of min till winter oats. Then 67 in direct drilled field of WW. @wormscience why so many small ones ? I had to count twice to check what I was seeing!!

@wormscience Went & had a look in the @Kingscrops @FrontierAg #CoverCrop Trials field this afternoon. Is that 18 on the last day of #WorldWormWeek

With 2 earthworm enthusiasts among its Editors-in-chief, Geoderma is as excited about #WorldWormWeek as anyone! Check out 2 of our 2019 earthworm articles by Yvan Capowiez and @JWvanGroenigen - one experimental, one meta-analysis! https://t.co/oDe1POHxRL https://t.co/e8LZVLYbek

#Earthworms are ‘ecosystem engineers’ and are incredibly important to #agriculture. They contribute to #soil aeration, drainage, nutrient movement & fertility which supports the ecosystem services soil provides. There's still time to count how many you have! #WorldWormWeek
