While I'm still somewhat enjoying Stalker 2, the more I play, the more I sour on it. Wouldn't be surprised if the 74 Metacritic is with journalists offering a degree of leeway for Ukraine related development woes, else I feel it might've scored lower. Unfortunately on console Stalker 2 is one of the jankiest, most unpolished and rough major titles I've ever played. It's not just the copious bugs, but also fundamentals in gameplay design, balance, control competency etc. Admittedly it plays far better in 60fps mode than it does 30fps. 30fps mode has a near broken amount of input latency in this game. But it just feels like every step of the way the game's fighting you, with its; +Wonky lean mechanics and controls. +Laggy menus. +Jerky animations. +Obtuse weight and inventory system. +Excessive gear degradation +Weapons constantly jamming even at 50% durability. +Paltry side quest payouts. +Absurd purchase/repair pricing. +Extreme encumbrance and stamina. +Geometry clipping. +Unbalanced AI (they can sometimes literally shoot through walls and objects that you can't lol). +Frustrating anomalies and radiation. +Insane fall damage etc. The survival aspects just aren't particularly fun or thrilling. Cyberpunk 2077 was a buggy joke at launch, but there was a great game underneath it all (hence the PC scores). Stalker 2 is both buggy and somewhat lacklustre, at least so far on console. This game probably needed a 6 months to a whole extra year in the cooker. Not just to sort bugs and tech issues, but gameplay and combat fundamentals. This was actually my most anticipated Xbox exclusive of the year, and is instead easily the biggest disappointment relative to my expectations. Though I'm still trudging through as there is a good underlying sense of atmosphere and freedom. #Xbox #GamePass #Stalker2
