In 2012 I have created the first Guild at Wix, it was the server guild, since then the guild model expanded to the entire engineering org and the company as a whole, and we formed frontend, QA, mobile, product, UX, HR and many more guilds. But now it is time to change! The AI revolution isn’t just changing our tools it’s redefining our roles. At Wix Engineering, we’ve always believed in staying ahead of the curve. But the shift we’re seeing with GenAI isn't incremental; it’s structural. As a company that pioneered the operational guild model we understand that the current structure does not serves us anymore. That’s why we’re making a bold move: Unifying our Frontend, Backend, and Mobile guilds into a single Engineering Guild and introducing the xEngineer. What is an xEngineer? It’s not a "full-stack generalist" in the traditional sense. It’s an AI-native specialist who: 🔹 Focuses on architecture, system design, and security while AI handles the bulk of the syntax. 🔹 Owns outcomes end-to-end, from concept to production. 🔹 Leverages AI as a core teammate to eliminate handoffs and silos. The future of engineering belongs to those who can bridge the gap between human design and AI execution. Innovation is in our DNA, and this is the next step. We do not neglect our expertise, we are elevating it with AI. This change while starts with unifying 3 guilds into one, will evolve to other guilds and professions. The road is not paved yet, and many things are still unknown, but we believe it is the right path to keep Wix a leader in the AI era.
