I wish I were surprised by this...
#AccessibilityIsEquality and Access Fails are exhausting, heartbreaking, and unjust.
1. I’m in tears. #DissbilityTwitter pls help me call out @ThistleHotels & @agoda. I booked a wheelchair accessible room in March for my London trip to speak at @WomensPrize tomorrow. arrived in taxi to find there’s 8 steps to get in & there’s no wheelchair accessible room free.
It'd be great to hear this in the #NotSecretCourt too. I've written about my experience of this aspect of courtroom etiquette as a public observer in the COP (back when I could still walk with sticks) here:

I’ve just spent the last two days in the Court of Appeal, where the usher, upon the judges entering and leaving the courtroom, called out “All rise, if you are able”, or words to that effect. Is the tailpiece to that a new thing generally in courts?
Yep. I've been stranded on a train at night because pre-booked access arrangements at my (unattended) station failed. I now can't use trains alone. Yet another assault to my independence and reminder that I'm a second-class citizen...

People who organise events - letting carers/PAs accompany #disabled people free of charge is great - thanks!...
...Now, if you could make that clear in your advertising (along with any 'proof' you require) that would save a lot more faff!
#AccessibilityIsEquality
Just wasted time going round in circles trying to contact a venue I'm visiting tonight as they have previously required you to reserve #BlueBadge spaces - but none of their off-site call handlers can do this for me...🤦♀️
So much for #Equality and #a11y

If there's one thing worse than being told a service or venue is inaccessible as a wheelchair-user, it's finding this out the hard way after being assured that it IS accessible when you asked in advance...
#AccessibilityIsEquality
If "accessible" facilities* require a disabled person to locate a key before using them, they ain't "accessible"...
*See also "accessible" loos with non-radar locks.

Work just replaced the iffy platform lift I have to use to get in to the building. New one needs a key so I have to attract the attention of security staff and wait for them to find the key. They've actually made the building less accessible.
I dream of a day when this level of dedication to accessibility is the norm...
Thank you @coldplay

We want our concerts to be accessible to everyone, and for everyone to have the best possible experience. Here are a few things we are doing for the rest of the tour.
If you would benefit from any of these initiatives, or have any suggestions please email [email protected].
Always good when a venue lists all the ways it is 'inclusive' and a 'safe space' and all the forms of oppression not tolerated within it - then follows with:
"...Our venues can be challenging for wheelchair users due to uneven floors..."
#IsntItIronic #AccessibilityIsEquality
As a researcher, it's really horrible to think (know) that some people would rather not have someone like me at their conference/event than go to the bother of dealing with our access needs...
Why is everything a fight?

I totally agree with Tafadzwa...
And the worst part is that while society might not be able to fix my chronic pain, it COULD fix much of the inaccessibility - which means the barriers I face on a daily basis are society's CHOICE.

Hi, my name is Tafadzwa & I've been on pain medication for the past 7 years. I often think chronic pain is the worst part of my disability but then I go outside & encounter an inaccessible world. It often makes one feel unwanted, I hope that changes one day.

So, a city filled with narrow, cobbled streets making a painful, hostile environment for #disabled people now goes the whole way in making itself inaccessible...Hurrah...🤬

City of York Council to consider disabled driver access ban
Disability campaigners and human rights groups, however, said making the changes permanent would "take away the dignity and independence of at least 7,500 blue badge holders" in York. https://t.co/tAetLZG7mc
The sequel to my tweet last night about my friends' experience in a posh Birmingham hotel...
#AccessibilityIsEquality #WheelchairWoes
This is horrendous! Why is my friend having her 40th birthday staying in a super-expensive hotel ruined just because she happens to use a wheelchair??
#AccessibilityIsEquality - and it's a LEGAL DUTY, not some goodwill gesture.
@HyattBham SORT THIS OUT!
#WheelchairWoes
Not. Good. Enough.

Why do we STILL live in a world that physically segregates #disabled people. We are NOT second class citizens - stop treating us as such!
#AccessibilityIsEquality
Another event I've been invited to without wheelchair access. Another event I can't attend letting down friends that shouldn't have to be worrying about booking an accessible venue. No venue should be given a drinks licence without access. Not one!
Imagine a future where #disabled athletes are free to (just) be athletes, and don't have to be activists just to get a place at the table...

#WeDeserveBetter
Ginny raising one example of why I hate when people talk about invisible impairments saying "If I were in a wheelchair..." - as though wheelies have accessibility sewn up.
I can't get IN around a third of the shops in my hometown...

This, this, this...All day long, this...
#AccessibilityIsEquality
We need to stop viewing accessibility as a kindness. It isn’t. The equal treatment of disabled people is a civil rights issue. It deserves to be taken seriously.
@BlondeHistorian Well done - shouldn't have been necessary. One day, it won't be...
