On this Monday, October 10, 2025, 34 Burundian refugees appeared before the court in Kasulu.
They are accused of insurrection for events that occurred on April 29, 2024. On that day, the Tanzanian police entered zones 10 and 11, raiding houses where they suspected refugees of hiding their goods, since Burundian refugees are not allowed to engage in income-generating activities in Tanzania.
In response to these abuses, the refugees cried out in protest, which led the police to arrest several of them.
Five remain in prison, while twenty-nine were released but also appeared before the court.
Their forced repatriation could be used as a form of punishment, as has often happened in the past.
