BJP leaders were quick to seize upon the remark, calling it an insult to Bihar’s people and identity. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary accused the Congress of repeatedly displaying its “true character,” recalling the earlier controversy over comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother. Former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Bihar’s voters would respond “in a democratic manner” in the upcoming Assembly elections.
