Access restrictions imposed by โlocal militiaโ in Bugna and Lasta districts, North Wollo Zone, #Amhara Region, have intensified a humanitarian crisis affecting 77,000 people, including 10,000 displaced, according to the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO). The report stated, โtelecommunications and banking systems are not functional, and government structures have been absent for three months,โ leaving residents without essential services.
ECHO highlighted that โ79% of pregnant and lactating women and 70% of children are acutely malnourished,โ with 9.2% severely affected. It also reported, โThe lack of humanitarian assistance and low crop production, coupled with high food prices, have exacerbated food insecurity.โ

An alarming and serious starvation has been reported in #Bugna District (Woreda), Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Over 10,000 mothers and children are reported to be affected.
The pictures and reports that are coming out are heart wrenching, this man made starvation is a result of loss of livelihood due to #WarOnAmhara, lack of access to market, aid and financial services. The livelihood of the large portion of the rural population is dependent on agriculture. This location was continuously under war since 2020.
While huge effort is needed to raise awareness globally to expose, stop and create accountability for the #WarOnAmhara being waged on the people by the regime in Ethiopia, please do what you can in also supporting credible and proven aid efforts that can save lives of these repeatedly targeted and now starving mothers and children.

#Ethiopia: Assistance underway for #Amhara's #Bugna district amid severe food shortages
Tesfaw Batable, Commissioner of the Amhara Disaster Prevention and Food Security Commission, announced that food aid has been distributed to Bugna District with the support of #UNICEF and the World Food Programme (#WFP).
The commissioner stated that plans are underway to assist 110,000 individuals through collaborative efforts involving the Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) and the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission. "The response is coordinated and supported by a research team on the ground," he added.
Food aid to the district had been suspended for several months due to security challenges in the area, leaving over 110,000 residents in critical need.
