We have to extend our ventilator best practices and quality improvement efforts into the ED. Especially given how much time critically ill ventilated patient spend there waiting for ICU beds...likely long enough to experience ventilator-induced lung injury. #cccf18 #cccf2018

Amato: Narcotic sedation in ventilated lung injury patient drops the respiratory rate and may lead to corresponding harmful increase in driving pressure to maintain pH/PaCO2. Propofol has the opposite (and possibly favourable) effect. #CCCF2018

Amato: Increasing respiratory rate and driving pressure in ventilated lung injury patients both associated with increased mortality. But risk is 5x greater driving pressure:RR. Therefore think about increasing the RR to allow decrease in the driving pressure. #CCCF2018
