Several reports circulating on #Indian social media suggest the formation of an autonomous intelligence unit within the Indian Strategic Forces Command, known as #CCIU-SFC, with a mandate to counter espionage activities emanating from #Pakistan and #China. However, instead of solely focusing on external threats, it is essential for the newly established CCIU-SFC to prioritize addressing the grave internal issue of uranium theft within #India. The nation has experienced numerous instances of such incidents, as corroborated by various international think tanks and governmental entities.
The persistent uranium theft poses a significant security challenge fo not only India but region as well, necessitating proactive measures to safeguard nuclear materials domestically.
⭕️ Some documented Uranium theft cases spanning from 1994 to 2021 underscore the persistent nature of this threat.
◼️1994:
2.5kg of Uranium seized from 4 smugglers in the Domiasiat region.
◼️1998:
🔹️Arrest of an opposition politician in possession of over 100kg of Uranium.
🔹️Apprehension of a group by the CBI with more than 9kg of Uranium in #TamilNadu.
🔹️Confiscation of 31 grams in addition to 2kg of Uranium.
◼️2000:
🔹️#Mumbai police seized 8.3kg of Uranium from a scrap dealer.
🔹️Recovery of 25kg of radioactive Uranium from a person at the Bibi Cancer Hospital by the CBI.
