El Perú participó, con funcionarios del @MinemPeru , @MinamPeru y @PeruenGinebra, en la #COP5 del Convenio de #Minamata, que tuvo lugar en Ginebra del 30 de octubre al 3 de noviembre. Se adoptaron importantes decisiones referentes a enmiendas al Convenio, los umbrales de residuos de mercurio, el suministro y el comercio de mercurio, la transversalizacion de la perspectiva de género, y acciones para proteger a los pueblos indígenas de la contaminación por mercurio, entre muchas más
Fue aprobada la resolución que pide involucrar a los Pueblos Indígenas en los esfuerzos de eliminación del mercurio. Esto se dio en las negociaciones de la #COP5 del Convenio de Minamata sobre el Mercurio, adelantadas esta semana en Ginebra, Suiza.
Esta es una gran noticia impulsada por el mensaje que los Pueblos Indígenas y las comunidades locales de la #Amazonia dieron en la Quinta Reunión de la Conferencia de las Partes en el Convenio de Minamata sobre el Mercurio, realizada en Brasilia, Brasil, donde participó Elio Matapi, asesor de relacionamiento intercultural de la FCDS.
La resolución señala que las negociaciones futuras para la eliminación de la contaminación por este metal deben incluir un enfoque en las necesidades y prioridades de los indígenas, así como de las comunidades locales, que son quienes sufren los efectos del mercurio en su salud y medios de vida.
